1. Make a plan.

Yes, that's right, we're getting all fancy and goal-oriented here. Why? Because it'll save you time, energy, and help you prioritize which areas of your home require more attention than others. So, take a step back and ask yourself, what do you want to achieve from your spring cleaning? Do you want to clear out the cobwebs of winter and give your home a fresh start? Or perhaps your goal is to finally tame the messy abyss that is your closet (that's what I'm tackling, I'm not quite sure why I think I will ever fit in a size 0 again). Whatever it may be, setting your sights and focusing your efforts will make your spring cleaning journey a lot less chaotic, and a lot more satisfying. Create a checklist of tasks that need to be completed and set a timeline for when you'd like everything to be finished. Martha Stewart has a great comprehensive checklist in her Homekeeping Handbook Having a plan in place will help you stay organized and motivated. #goalgetter

2. Declutter first.

Don't be a hoarder, my friend. Take stock of your furniture and belongings and be ruthless in deciding what stays and what goes. That old bean bag chair from college? Cut it loose. The collection of shot glasses from every city you've ever visited? Time to say goodbye. And once you've downsized your possessions, it's time to identify those areas that have been neglected for far too long. The closet overflowing with clothes you haven't worn in years, the junk drawer filled with mysterious objects, the pile of mail that's been accumulating on the kitchen counter. Take a deep breath, put on some upbeat music, and get ready to tackle those pesky problem areas. Trust me, after all the hard work is done, you'll feel like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. Plus, you'll have more space for all those new spring outfits you've been eyeing. #mariekondoit

3. Start from the top.

Listen I'm pretty sure your nose is already running and your eyes are like leaky faucets because of those darn spring allergies so don't make them worse! When it's time to clean, begin by tackling the highest surfaces first, such as the tops of bookshelves, cabinets and ceiling fans. This way, any dust or debris that falls down onto lower surfaces will be cleaned up later. Work your way down to the floors, finishing with a thorough sweep and mop. Believe me, you'll thank your future self! #getvertical

4. Use natural cleaning products.

This isn't Instagram, folks, so no filters here it's time to go natural. Many cleaning products are filled with harsh chemicals that can be harmful to you, your family, your fur babies and the environment. Instead, try using natural cleaning products, which are often just as effective and much safer. Companies like Grove Collaborative have a variety of natural cleaning products you can have auto-shipped to your door. You can also easily make homemade cleaners with ingredients like vinegar, lemon juice, and baking soda you can even add some essential oils for the scent that puts you in your most peaceful state, cause at the end of the day you are still cleaning...am I right or am I right? #nofilter

5. Break it up.

Spring cleaning can be overwhelming, especially if you're trying to tackle your entire home in one day. Break it up into smaller tasks, and spread it out over a few days or even a few weekends. This will make the process much more manageable and less stressful. #onebiteatatime

All in all, when it comes to spring cleaning, it's important to focus on what matters most to you. Maybe you've been putting off cleaning out the garage, or perhaps the kitchen cabinets have been in desperate need of decluttering for months. Whatever your goals may be, make sure to put your energy into those areas that will make the biggest impact on your space and your sanity. And don't forget, as daunting as it may seem, even just having your carpets deep cleaned can make a world of difference in how fresh and inviting your home feels.

Ok so...roll up those sleeves, blast some upbeat tunes, and prepare to give your home the TLC it deserves this spring and remember to take your time, stay organized, and don't forget to celebrate your hard work once it's all done! Or you could always hire someone to take care of all that dirty work ... I'm pretty sure I will contract out some of it, I've found some great help using Thumbtack in the past!

XOXO
