Hey there, weekend warriors! So, guess what we did over the weekend? No, we didn't binge-watch the latest Netflix series (well, maybe a little). We did something way more exciting and, dare I say, a tad nerve-wracking – we prepped for the impending One Room Challenge!

Now, if you're scratching your head wondering what the heck a One Room Challenge is, let me enlighten you. It's basically a DIY showdown where folks like us take on the Herculean task of transforming a room in just eight weeks. Yep, you read that right – eight weeks of blood, sweat, and hopefully no tears {though I make no promises}.

But here's the kicker: instead of diving headfirst into the chaos, we decided to tackle this challenge in bite-sized pieces. Why? Because we're not masochists, that's why! Breaking it down into phases makes it more manageable and less likely to induce a full-blown panic attack. Plus, it gives us the flexibility to juggle our various garage needs – think work area, workout space, and storage for our ever-expanding collection of sports gear.

So, phase one: work space & cabinetry. Now, I don't know about you, but the idea of building our own cabinets both thrills and terrifies me in equal measure. On one hand, DIY-ing it means we can customize every nook and cranny to our heart's content. On the other hand, there's a non-zero chance we'll end up with wonky, lopsided monstrosities that haunt our dreams.

But fear not, dear friends, for armed with determination {and a healthy dose of YouTube tutorials}, we ventured forth to our local Lowe's Home Improvement store to scope out the goods. Can you picture it: two wide-eyed DIY enthusiasts wandering the aisles, clutching a crumpled list of materials like it's the Holy Grail. We priced out lumber, screws, hinges, and all manner of odds and ends, mentally calculating the damage to our bank account {good thing we made some moola selling items on Facebook Marketplace}.

Here's a list of what we will be purchasing for this phase:

After much deliberation {and a few heated debates over the merits of pine versus oak}, we made a decision – we're gonna build those darn cabinets ourselves {and not hack some Ikea cabinets this time}, come hell or high water! Sure, it might be a tad ambitious for a couple of novices like us, but hey, where's the fun in playing it safe?

With newfound resolve, we retreated to our humble abode and got down to business. Armed with paper a trusty pencil and ruler, Skott sketched out our grand plans for the ultimate garage workspace while created did a slightly less detailed version of my own.

And as we put the finishing touches on our blueprints, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. Sure, there'll be challenges ahead {pun absolutely intended}, but isn't that what makes the journey worthwhile? So, here's to the next eight weeks of DIY madness – may our power tools be ever charged and our sanity remain {mostly} intact.

Ready to join us on this rollercoaster ride of sawdust and sweat? Follow along as we tackle the One Room Challenge one phase at a time. And hey, if you're feeling brave, why not take on a challenge of your own? Whether it's revamping your garage, sprucing up your living room, or finally tackling that Pinterest project you've been eyeing, there's no time like the present to unleash your inner DIY champion. Let's do this!
