One Room Challenge Fall 2023 - Week One | The Space & The Vision

Welcome to my first blog post in a series of eight about my participation in the One Room Challenge for the second time! For those of you who are not familiar with the ORC, it is a bi-annual event that gives everyone an opportunity to transform a space within their home in just eight weeks. It's an incredible experience that challenges participants to be creative, while also providing a supportive community for encouragement and inspiration.
In 2021, hubby and I updated our outdoor covered patio, transforming it from a boring and unused space into a beautiful and functional area for relaxation, entertainment, and even watching TV. It was a successful project that brought us great joy and a sense of accomplishment. This year, we've decided to focus on our foyer, which has been an eyesore in our home for over two years. It is the first impression our guests have when they enter our home and it is in desperate need of a makeover.
Participating in the ORC this year is just the extra push and motivation we need to finally complete the foyer project. We have already made some progress, but we're far from finished. We have added shiplap to the ceiling, which has given the space a much-needed personality and charm. We have also begun the installation of an IKEA cabinet and built the frame for a bench, which will offer storage for shoes and accessories, practicality, and style all at once.
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in this challenge again but with a different space this time. The foyer is going to set the stage for the rest of our house and we cannot wait to see the final results. We are determined to make our foyer a welcoming, functional, and stylish space that incorporates our personal tastes and design preferences.
Our plan is to keep our readers and the ORC community updated with our progress so we can all share our experiences and encourage one another throughout the challenge. We have a very busy weekend ahead of us, it's our Skott's 45th birthday and we're taking a little trip to the mountain. So this week will be ordering some of the items like the wallpaper mural, rug and lighting. The real work will continue next weekend when we start trimming out the bench and cabinet and deciding on the crown molding.
